Root Fillings

We promise to take every reasonable measure to save a viable tooth. Where damage to a tooth from decay or injury has involved the nerve and blood supply, a root filling is provided as an alternative to an extraction. Root filling a tooth means removing damaged or dead nerves with narrow files, disinfecting the root canal, and filling the space in the root that is left with a rubbery material. A filling or crown is then placed on top.

During the treatment, profound local anaesthesia is administered so that the treatment is painless.

Several X-Rays may need to be taken during the root treatment.

A root filling often requires more than one visit, especially if the root is very infected.

This picture shows a narrow file removing the damaged nerve of a molar. The space created in the root is filled with a rubbery material and a normal filling or crown seals the top of the tooth.
