Achieve oral health greatness in 2021
Smile, we made it to 2021!! And just like that the year from hell is over and although we’re still in the midst of the pandemic it’s never felt better to start a new year, a fresh start, turn over a new leaf and all of the other clichés that are dished out during this time of year. Even though the number one thing on our resolution list for 2021 is to make it through, you also might want to take this opportunity to try to lead a healthier lifestyle so where better than to start with your oral health?
To help you on your way, here are some simple steps (dare we say resolutions?!) that will help you achieve dental greatness this year.
Brush, brush, brush
Let’s start off with a basic one – brush your teeth, twice a day, for two minutes and with fluoride toothpaste. Vow to never skip brushing your teeth this year, no matter how late you get in. Brushing teeth thoroughly will help to remove plaque, which leads to tooth decay if it’s not removed and the fluoride in the toothpaste helps to strengthen tooth enamel.
Get into a regular routine
Prevention is the better than cure so if you’ve become a bit slack lately make the start of the new year a time to commit to a regular brushing and interdental cleaning routine. Make sure to also book in to see our dental hygienists, Jo and Ellie, for a professional clean every 6 months or whenever they recommend you come and see them. This will ensure your oral health stays in the best condition and will help you kick-start a new oral hygiene routine that will keep gum disease at bay.
Sugar? No thanks I’m sweet enough
Christmas is the season of overindulgence so come January the 1st many of us say to ourselves, “that’s it – no more sugary snacks” which lasts all of 5 days! Instead of cutting out sugar altogether try limiting them, swapping for slightly healthier alternative (e.g., swapping a sugary yogurt snack for plain yogurt with fresh fruit) or restrict snacks to mealtimes only, so you’re subjecting your teeth to fewer ‘acid attacks’ throughout the day.
Quit the habit
A new year is a great time to ditch the ciggies or shisha habit. It’s one of the best things you can do for your oral health (not to mention your general health) in this new year. Tobacco causes all sorts of oral health problems, including bad breath, stained teeth, gum disease, tooth loss and an increased risk of oral cancer.
New year, new smile
Self-care isn’t all just spa days and yoga on the beach, although that does sound lovely! It can also be about investing in yourself and finally getting a smile you’ve always dreamed of. Our highly specialised dentists create complete, dramatic smile transformations (just take a peek at our Instagram page) as well as whitening, straightening, veneers and dental implants. Transforming your smile can be life-changing and can boost your confidence for years to come.
“… You are a genius and an artist (or should it be craftsman/person?) Andrew! Just a small note of thanks for your wizardry and expertise yesterday. It feels and looks amazingly better – and not even a twinge of pain afterwards…” – Patient
