How to avoid dental havoc on holiday

24th July 2018

It’s peak holiday season and everyone is all sun, sea and sangria at the moment. If you too are jetting off this summer, don’t let any dental related issues ruin your vacay and follow these tips:

1. See your dentist before you travel

Try to fit in a routine dental check-up before you leave on your trip. During every routine check-up we carefully examine your teeth, tongue, gums and look for early signs of mouth cancer. These check-ups are vital for a healthy mouth as we can spot any potential problems and act early, before they need more invasive and costly treatment. Plus having a check up will also give you peace of mind when you’re away.

2. Pack your dental survival kit

Keep your smile sparkling when away and don’t forget the following:

  • Toothbrush. Let your toothbrush air dry when you can and when you need to pack it away, use a protective cover with holes for ventilation.
  • Toothpaste
  • Tongue scraper
  • Floss
  • Retainers, aligners etc

3. Insure your smile

When buying travel insurance, look for one that covers dental emergencies too, for extra peace of mind.

4. Go easy on the treats

It’s easy to forget about eating healthily when away, as all we want to do is sip pina coladas by the pool right? Just remember to have everything in moderation and don’t forget to brush your teeth first thing in the morning and last thing at night (40 minutes after your last drink/meal).
