8 reasons to visit the hygienist

5th February 2020

At CGDP, we are passionate about dental health and hygiene as it is at the heart of everything we provide. Maintaining a healthy mouth is paramount to preventing long-term dental and general health problems. Our dental hygienists work hand in hand with our dentists, and they are dedicated to providing a healthy, happy smile to every patient.

Here are 8 reasons to visit the hygienist regularly:

1. Detect potential dental problems

Prevention is better than cure. We will be able to spot any potential dental issues and catch them before they get any worse. She will be able to identify cavities, infections, gum disease, grinding and even oral cancer.

2. Clean those hard to reach spots

Even if you think your oral hygiene routine at home is excellent, the hygienist will be able to thoroughly clean your teeth, using instruments and the training to know exactly where the hidden plaque and tartar (hardened plaque) will be.

3. Prevent gum disease

Gum disease causes many problems – bleeding and painful gums, bad breath, tooth loss etc. However gum disease is treatable and we can prevent these awful effects of the disease if it’s nipped in the bud. Our hygienist will treat gum disease and help you control and prevent it yourself at home.

4. Tailored oral hygiene routine

Our hygienists will develop a personal oral hygiene routine for you to follow at home, depending on your oral health and to show you the most effective way to clean.

5. Banish bad breath

Bad breath is one of life’s embarrassing little problems but as unpleasant as it is, it is preventable. Bad breath is usually caused by a dental problem, so the hygienist can give your teeth a regular deep clean to help avoid the problem.

6. Spot cancer warning signs

During your appointment, we will also screen you for oral cancer, which is highly curable if detected early.

7. Have a whiter smile

Our daily habits, for example drinking coffee, red wine, smoking etc can stain our teeth. These stains, however, can be removed to restore your teeth to their natural whiteness through thorough stain removal during your appointment.

8. Boost self-esteem

Having a set of healthy, clean, stain-free teeth can boost your confidence in your every day life.
