5th December 2023

Your smile wields incredible power. If you’re looking to enhance your smile without committing to any extensive dental work, then composite bonding might just be the answer for you. In this composite bonding 101 guide, we break down the basics of this dental procedure and why it’s a game-changer.

What is composite bonding?

Composite bonding is a cosmetic dentistry procedure that involves the application of a tooth-coloured resin to your teeth. This resin is carefully sculpted and bonded to the tooth’s surface to improve its shape, size, and colour. The result? A flawless, natural looking smile.

What is the process?

Composite bonding is a relatively quick process that can be completed in a single dental appointment.

Initial Consultation – The process starts with a discussion on your smile goals and what you hope to achieve with composite bonding. Your teeth will also be examined to determine if you’re suitable for the procedure.

Preparation – Next, minimal tooth preparation is needed in most cases and anaesthesia is typically unnecessary. The surface of your teeth that will undergo bonding will be roughened at this stage, which helps the bonding material adhere properly. A conditioning liquid will also be applied to ensure a strong bond.

Bonding – A tooth-colour resin will be applied to the tooth’s surface. This resin is a malleable material that can be shaped and moulded to help achieve the desired shape and appearance.

Curing – Next is where a special light (often ultraviolet light) is then used to harden the resin and make it durable.

Final touches will then be made to ensure the bonded teeth look natural and align perfectly with your existing teeth. The outcome is a beautiful smile that will boost your self-confidence.

Why have composite bonding?

Composite bonding offers many advantages that make it a great choice for smile enhancement. First and foremost, being a swift and virtually painless procedure. The magic of this procedure lies in its ability to deliver an aesthetic smile, one that seamlessly blends with your natural teeth. Its versatility can address a range of cosmetic concerns from repairing cracked or chipped teeth to correcting discoloration and filling gaps.
